If you have never had your makeup done, Christmas could be the perfect opportunity for you to experiment and try it… it may even inspire you to find a new look for the new year. We love getting our makeup done every once and a while, mostly for special occasions or fancy parties… and of course the ball season coming up. So, if you are trying it out for the first time we understand it can be stressful that is why we’ve made a list of some major no-no’s you should avoid.
1. Don’t Bring A Strongly Opinionated Friend
We all have one, they think they know what is best for us… Your friends are only trying to help but your should really leave the decision making to the professionals. They have done it so many times and know exactly what kind of makeup will bring out which features, and you may learn something new from them!
2. Don’t Watch The Process
This is important, because before the final product is in place it isn’t going to be the glamorous look you imagine. The look usually will only come together at the end. So watching the process might scare you a bit, so we suggest only looking when it is completed – you will be much happier this way.
3. Don’t Assume Smoky Eye Means The Same Thing To Everyone
People have different interpretations of smoky eyes some heavier, some lighter, some for evening or some for day. So if you say you would like a smoky eye be as specific to your needs as possible be the best outcome.
4. Don’t Be Afraid To Show Up With A Picture
Showing up with a picture is the best way to get what you want. It will inspire the artist and let them know what direction you would like to go in. Although the artist probably won’t capture the makeup exactly in order to best flatter your face, it will serve as a good benchmark.
5. Don’t Be Afraid To Listen To Suggestions
Makeup artists have seen hundreds of faces, and chances are they have seen one similar to yours. So even though you may have your heart set on a red lip, listen to the makeup artist if they have any other suggestions to make you the belle of the ball.
6. Don’t Say “Do Whatever You Want” – And Expect Anything Else
If you have an idea in your head speak up, if you give a makeup artist full liberty to do whatever they want with no sort of benchmark, don’t be mad they weren’t able to read your mind and did something in the opposite direction of what you were thinking.
7. Don’t Be Shy
Don’t be afraid to speak up. If you know something won’t look good on you and you see the makeup artist reaching for the heavy black eyeliner, don’t be afraid to tell them you don’t think that will work for you. Chances are they will either explain to you what they are doing to help you relax or they will completely change their approach.
8. Don’t Do Something Too Outside Your Comfort Zone
If you are not comfortable in the makeup they have suggested don’t get it done anyways. Confidence is sexy, and there is no better way of ruining that than being completely outside of your element.
