Awareness towards the environment is a very important topic in our times. There are many approaches to the protection of the environment, and one in specific, that we as customers have influence on. And because we don’t want to get to strict or serious we can reassure you because you will really enjoy our following recommendations! It is a guide about where to buy and/or eat consciously in the city of Vienna. The places we are presenting you below are all about organic, fair trade, regional and high quality food. Try them and enjoy helping the environment!
Seasonal products and dishes, either for breakfast, lunch or take-away: The concept of limoni’s is, to use what we have instead of letting unspeakable fruits travel around the world to our plates. Of course, you will find dishes with avocado as well, but the menue of the day always includes seasonal veggies, such as beet root or pumpkin in fall. A must-try are also their smoothies!
This little store is a place to go for groceries as well as for having a sit-in lunch or coffee. All available products are organic and 100 % packaging free. The shop obtains it’s products from local farmers and little producers and it also offers other things besides food like washing and cleaning agents. You can either bring your own packaging and fill it up or buy a glass jar there. Because you can choose the amount of stuff you want, you safe not only on waste, but also on food (and money). No more spoiled veggies in the fridge!
The Markterei is a temporary venue in the Markthalle Alte Post in the first district. It just opened it’s new season, which will be going on until June, 17th 2017 (with a break during Christmas Holidays). The big, old and beautiful market hall opens it’s doors every Friday from 12 and Saturday from 10am and hosts many different producers and suppliers of local and organic food. The range of different goods is very big and it goes from delicacies like truffle chocolate or high class wines to usual veggies, fish or cheese. Enjoy the delicious offerings from the food trucks and market stands there or buy the ingredients for your next dinner party. (Our insider tip: don’t miss the divine sweets from Skitchen!)
The concept of this small grocery store is to completely relinquish plastic and only use glass, paper or fabric packaging when necessary. You bring your own bags and fill them with the amount of food that you need (like at Lunzers Maß-Greißlerei). The farmers and producers that provide the food are selected by the criteria of nearness and quality. Goods that come from further away are fair trade certified. And, of course, everything is organic!
Vienna’s first Heurigen with a certified partly organic assortment offers the typical ‘Brettljause’, several warm snacks and of course precious wines. It is a rather unusual premise because it’s a blend of the traditional Austrian Heurigen (but without the grubby and old-fashioned interior) and a fancy Hipster bar (but much more down-to-earth). On top of all that they serve organic Austrian specialities and very good wines.
