For the weekend ahead, many take the occasion and embark on a short skiing trip. For us Austrians, this is very convenient as it doesn’t take us long to get to the next ski area, no matter where in the country we live. So if you find yourself lucky enough to say the same, or you maybe already planned your next skiing trip for any other days, the tipps that we are giving in this post will be crucial for you!
To be optimally prepared for your next getaway to a wintry place, we collected this very useful advices, so that your trip turns out as awesome as possible. Believe us, this little hacks will let you make the most out of your time and you will be able to enjoy it even more. Maybe they will even prevent you from on or another unwelcome surprise.
# 1. Stay Warm
Staying warm, especially when you are doing sports, like skiing, is not only a important for your well-feeling, but it is also a benefit for your health! When the muscles are cold, they are more prone to get hurt. If you are that kind of person that tends to be cold all the time, you should consider investing in some extra warm underclothes, as well as warming accessories like socks, hat, scarf and gloves. And preconceive this also for when off the slopes!
# 2. Pack Wisely
If you are planning to do winter sports, most of the space in your suitcase will be occupied with your gear. So you will have to economize with the little space that you have left. It always helps to think of how you will spend your days when you are away. (How often) will you go out (and need a fancy outfit)? What are you going to wear in the evenings? Will you spent most of the time in your cabin with your friends? If so, a jogger pants, jumper and a cardigan will do best! AND: follow #6!
# 3. Indulge Your Body And Skin
Extreme weather conditions like snow, fog, but also sun and especially dry, cold air can stress your skin. The symptoms, like very dry skin often appear as recently as you are already back. To prevent this, bring along some products that won’t allow your hands, lips and face to dry out and don’t forget the sunblock! Additional skin treatments like (in-shower) body moisturizer and face masks are life (or better skin) savers!
# 4. Plan Ahead & Get In The Mood
How do you expect your vacation to be? Relaxing, exciting, adventurous…? Who are you going with and what are their expectations? It sometimes happens on joint trips, that you don’t get along or have arguments about trivialities just because in your mind you where already settled on something and can’t (or won’t) adjust to other ideas. So before leaving, think about how your coming days will be like, also considering your fellow travellers. If you have specific plans, like going out for drinks at night or a routine you want to follow (like being the first on the slopes in the morning), keep in mind that the others may have different plans and prepare to be flexible.
# 5. Bring Only 2 (!!) Pairs Of Shoes
If you choose with caution, you will only need one pair of shoes to walk around with. There are plenty of optional pairs that are both, warm and stylish, so that you can wear them for any occasion during your holidays. My personal suggestions are to go for either Timberland or UGG boots. It is essential that the shoes are comfortable, so that they are pleasant to travel with and wear them for multiple days in a row. The second pair you should bring is some cozy house slippers, especially when you are renting a cabin or apartment.
